After waking up to a very foggy day, we decided today was a perfect “date day”. In spite of the weather we decided to use a Groupon that I had bought Drew for Christmas. The Groupon was for Hinnant Family Vineyard located in Selma, North Carolina, which is about 30 minutes from our house.
I made the kids muffins for breakfast and we headed out for our “date day”. The roads today weren’t travel friendly, but we made it there and got out of the car to a very eerie scene. We were the only car in the gravel parking lot and the vineyard had the fog hanging over it giving it a very creepy feel.
The creepy feeling rapidly went away as we walked in the tasting room. We were greeted very warmly and had a great conversation with the hostess as she explained each wine to us. We sampled ten different wines and fell in love with the Carolina Wildflower which tasted like honey.
We decided another glass of the Carolina Wildflower and the Southern Twang was in order, so we got our glasses and headed back out to the front porch to enjoy what we could see of the scenery. To be honest there wasn’t much scenery with the fog, but that didn’t bother us. The fog provided a shield and we had our own little space to enjoy the wine. I should also mention that the tours do not run in the winter so there really wasn’t much else for us to see.
We left with a bottle of Carolina Wildflower. This wine isn’t sold in stores as of now so I know we will be heading back. Definitely a relaxing “date day” and I would recommend this trip to anyone who has a few hours to spare in their day.
